縁が縁を呼んで始まったこのプロジェクト。

もともと彼らはミッドタウンで第一線を走っていたコーポレートデザイナーたち。

度重なるビジネスという言葉のプレッシャーに疲れたのか、クリエイティビティという名の楽園を夢見たのか、お互いが示し合わせたようにそれぞれ自分のやりたいビジョンをものづくりに転化し始めた。

ノリータに拠点を移した彼らは、リトルイタリーからチャイナタウンを貫くメインストリートである “Mott St.( モット・ストリート )” で 1 日の大半を過ごす。事務所やアトリエ、ショップ、あのカジュアルなタコス屋とか... 自然と一つのコミュニティに集約される。

事実、彼らは10年来の友人だったり、師弟関係、はたまた恋愛関係 ? など、間違いなく、必然的に出来上がった輪が、今この街を象徴する集団となっている。

偶然にも約10年の間、その輪の中にいた我々が、このふたつの”City” (NY/TOKYO) をつなぐプロジェクトの相関図に いることも自然発生で、まだ仕事と趣味の境目が曖昧なのは我々始め一緒に動いているみんなの共通項だと言える。 

It began as a coincidence. Spontaneously. And with our designers, it is hard to tell whether it is work or play.

They were among the top corporate designers in midtown, but have grown weary of cynical business conversations and are intent on turning their visions into reality.

So, they’ve moved their lives to Nolita, where you may find them at an atelier, small store or casual Mexican restaurant. New York’s Mott Street unites our community, running from Little Italy to Chinatown and now all the way to Tokyo.

Our relationships may be that of a ten-year-old friendship or of former colleagues and have added up to something more intimate.

Our New York City family represents our now and our future, finding an honest place in the world of design, story-telling and respectful product-making.

It is only natural that we’ve brought our New York family to our home, Mott House Tokyo.
